This region is particularly known for its red wines and world famous sweet wines from Lake Neusiedl. It is further divided into the following subregions:
Neusiedlersee: Known for its sweet dessert wines, particularly those made from Welschriesling, and also for robust red wines from Zweigelt.
Neusiedlersee-Hügelland: Produces both sweet and dry wines, with notable vineyards around Rust known for Ruster Ausbruch, a high-quality dessert wine.
Mittelburgenland: Often referred to as "Blaufränkischland" due to its focus on Blaufränkisch, a prominent red grape variety.
Südburgenland: A smaller region known for Blaufränkisch and the unique Uhudler wine, made from hybrid grape varieties.
