Also known as Niederösterreich, it is the largest of all Austrian wine regions and includes the following sub-regions:
Wachau: Known for its steep terraced vineyards along the Danube River, producing some of Austria’s best Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners.
Kamptal: Famous for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, with notable vineyards around the towns of Langenlois and Zöbing.
Kremstal: Similar in style to Wachau and Kamptal, known for its high-quality Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Traisental: Austria’s smallest wine region, known for its mineral-driven Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Wagram: Known for its rich, loess soils that produce full-bodied Grüner Veltliner and Roter Veltliner.
Weinviertel: Austria’s largest sub-region by area, primarily producing spicy and peppery Grüner Veltliner.
Thermenregion: Known for its indigenous white varieties such as Zierfandler and Rotgipfler, as well as red wines from Pinot Noir and St. Laurent.
Carnuntum: Renowned for its red wines, particularly from Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch.
