Austria – Alpine Wines in Their Purest Form. Austria may be a small wine-producing country, but its diverse regions of natural beauty offer an impressive array of styles. From the iconic crisp, peppery Grüner Veltliner of Lower Austria to the legendary, elegant Rieslings of the Wachau, Austrian white wines are known for their precision and immense freshness. Burgenland, on the other hand, is home to expressive reds, with Blaufränkisch leading the way—full of dark fruit, spice, and vibrant acidity. In Styria, cooler vineyards produce bright, aromatic whites, including Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay (locally called Morillon).
Austrian wines are made with such a focus on balance and food-friendliness, making them a great choice for a wide range of local and international dishes. Here, we have picked some of our all-time favourites in order to create a selection that represents the classic, the excitingly new, and some under-the-radar bottles.
