From a very historic vineyard site the Steffensberg, a classified Grand Cru vineyard site.  Within this site is a special parcel called Löwenbaum (Lion Tree) which Alexandra and Konstantin bottle separately depending on the vintage. Sometimes this can be in form of a Auslese in other years as a dry wine. For 2021 it is a Feinherb style. As is typical for the wines of Weiser- Künstler their is a lightness and elegance in this wine, though it tends to be on the more richer spectrum of their various bottlings. Simply put- very honest and old school.

About the Winemaker

It takes a special kind of person to start a winery in the Mosel and decide to farm some of the steepest vineyards in the world. In fact, more and more vineyards are being abandoned as winemakers struggle to find successors. This makes the story of the amazing Weiser-Künstler estate even more remarkable.

Back in 2005, Alexandra Künstler and Konstantin Weiser launched their small wine estate from scratch. Here in the vineyards surrounding Enkirch, they are farming extremely steep slopes with single-staked old vines, some of the oldest in the region at over 100 years old. Yields are therefore naturally low, and if that isn't enough, they also decided to farm organically from the start, resulting in even more manual processes and additional work in the painstakingly difficult-to-farm vineyards. There is a real honesty and purity in these wines.

When Alexandra and Konstantin started in 2005, everyone thought they were straight-up crazy, but looking at what they have created, one can only admire their dedication. After a mere two decades, this little boutique estate of 4.5 hectares produces some of the finest and best Mosel wines up and down the river. Speak to any winemaker in the region, and the name Weiser-Künstler will inevitably come up for all the right reasons.
