The Steingrube (Stone Quarry) vineyard is a yet somewhat overlooked vineyard in the region. It should be monitored with interest over the years but in the meantime load up on what can only be described as one of the most exciting Chardonnays coming out of Germany. Though a comparison shouldn't be necessary if one would have to put a label on this it would be a concentrated but mineral driven white Burgundy. A wine of finely knitted fruit and great depth. Due to its ageing in barriques it displays notes of toast and ever so slight vanilla, followed by an almost exotic fruit core with a fine underlying acidity. This wine tends to only get better with a few years of bottle age which is when the wine really starts showing its full potential.

About the Winemaker

For four generations, the Fauth family has been the custodian of the Seehof winery in the idyllic village of Westhofen. Surrounded by iconic vineyards like Kirchspiel and Morstein, the talented Florian Fauth is responsible for crafting some of Rheinhessen's most exciting wines. Each wine bears a signature of clarity, precision, and balance. It is worth noting that Florian is the brother-in-law of Klaus Peter Keller, and the family’s estate shares some of the same iconic vineyard sites, such as Kirchspiel and Morstein. In fact, the Keller and Seehof estates are a mere 10 minutes by car from one another.

It surprises me that these wines still seem to fly somewhat under the radar. However, the Seehof estate is in good company, and Rheinhessen has become a powerhouse in the world of wine. Especially Westhofen has emerged as a melting pot of talent, with Seehof, Wechsler, and Wittmann, to name just a few.
